Control Throws and Mixes

Control Setup

You should have already hooked up your aileron control rods from the servo arms to the control horns on the ailerons. If not, do that now. You should have also run your pushrod to the elevator servo, hooked that up to the servo arm with a clevis and attached the other end to the elevator control horn. Do that as well now before you go any further (for obvious reasons!)

Control Throws and Control Mixes
Personally, I never pay any attention to the guidelines in the instructions for amount of throw for the control surfaces. I like as much throw as possible. I generally put in as much throw as the surfaces will take without binding up the control rods or the surfaces themselves. Do what you would like here according to your preferences.

For a little fun, I mixed in a flapperon droop to my ailerons. Whenever I input up elevator (i.e. elevator moves up) the ailerons droop down at the same time. This will give me a LOT more authority in pylon turns and inside loops. I have it mixed at about 20% to the elevator now, but may end up adjusting after its first flights. This mix is controlled on my Futaba 6XA by flipping the airbrake switch, which may come in handy. I also have the elevator and ailerons setup with dual rates for more laid back flying. But hey, who wants that right?!?!?!

Interestingly, whenever I input down elevator (you guessed it, the elevator moves down) the ailerons reflex upwards about 10%. I can't really figure out how to change this, but I thought I would leave it active now and see what happens when I make outside loops. If anyone with a Futaba 6XA knows how to modify this, let me know.

Now, GO OUT AND FLY YOUR NEW WARBIRD!
